CURRICULUM GRADES SCHEDULE
OUR CURRICULUM
Music Education at Buford Academy utilizes a multitude of media for all students. With an average of 50 minutes of music instruction each 8-day rotation, students receive instruction that will include use of technology (including the use of Apple IPod Touches), focus on music literacy, and teach creativity through guided compositional techniques. Resources include the use of Orff instruments, as well as textbooks from the Share the Music and Spotlight on Music series (MacGraw-Hill Co.). Many other resources - including Music K8 - are used in an effort to cover the new Georgia Performance Standards for Music. Software used in our program includes Music Ace II and MusicTime Deluxe. More information for other educational resources can be found on our links page.
Our 2nd graders are introduced to the reading of music notation through the various software available to us - including the story of Mr. Everybody.
Our 3rd graders refine their reading skills and begin to transfer them to pitched and unpitched percussion, especially with the use of Boomwhackers.
Our 4th graders begin to learn to read and play music simultaneously on recorders.
Our 5th graders continue to use recorders to deepen their understanding of music.
CHORUS
Our BA Chorus meets after school from 3:10-4:15. Each grade level meets on different days (see Chorus Schedule). For more information, please go to our BA Chorus homepage.
