Kathleen Welch Bio

Born and raised in Buford, Kathleen Perkins Welch graduated from Buford High School in 2011.  She then attended the University of Georgia, where she graduated in 3 years with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Kathleen always knew she wanted to call Buford home, so she returned to her hometown and works locally at Findley Insurance Agency.  Mrs. Welch is a third generation board member, and she seeks to keep Buford’s traditions and long-standing excellence in place for years and generations to come.

Mrs. Welch was elected to the Buford City School Board in 2021 on the tails of the seventh year in a row that Buford was cited as the number 1 school system in the state.  She seeks to work with fellow board members to ensure our schools have the best administration, teachers, staff, and facilities in the state of Georgia, if not the country.  It’s her desire that every single student that walks through our doors is provided with every opportunity and resource to achieve success during their time at Buford and beyond.  Kathleen’s desire to be a school board member is greatly influenced by her own experience as a K-12 Buford student.  “My teachers not only prepared me to succeed academically, but they also prepared me to be an effective member of my community. I am honored to give back to my community as a member of the board.”

Mrs. Welch’s husband, Jonathan, is a local real estate developer.  They have three daughters – little wolves - Raleigh, Mattie and Charlie.  While she loves Saturdays at Sanford Stadium, Buford is the most special place to her, and she loves cheering on the wolves every day of the week.
