Buford Academy was first built in 1884 on the north end of Spring Street. W. Robert Pool (gradulate of Emory College) was elected teacher. A student body of 50 attended September through May. The first floor was used for school for approximately 20 years. (Historic Buford,H. Morgan, 1993)

In August of 1999, Buford Academy opened its doors for the first time and welcomed in 541 students in third through fifth grades.  On the other side of those doors students were and continue to be met with experienced teachers whom love and care for each unique child.  Top-notch technology opportunities greet students as Buford Academy boasts four computer lab classrooms, two mobile lap top units, as well as, interactive white boards in every classroom.  Fine arts opportunities await with the largest elementary chorus in the state and a gorgeous Fine Arts Center suitable for musicals, plays and performances, which opened in 2000.

Opportunity abounds as Buford Academy expanded its hallways and welcomed second grade in August of 2008.  What a great addition! Endless opportunities for travel, adventure, science and fantasy extends its hand through our media center which doubled in size and now offers a jaw-dropping inventory of more than 14,000 books that beg students to pick them up and journey through its pages. Presently our 930 students, which includes second through fifth grades, find Buford Academy to not only be an award winning school, but a loving home where each student is free to take advantage of the opportunities  before them and soar in their learning!
