Recorders

Part of our instruction for all 4th & 5th graders includes the pre-band instruments called Recorders.  Recorders are instruments made popular in the medieval period that were originally made of wood.  Our recorders are made by Peripole-Bergerault and come with their own yellow bag, cleaning rod and joint grease. 

Students begin by learning basic pitches of G, A, and B in the 4th grade and then progress in 5th grade by learnng the remaining pitches of a C scale.  This process is helped by the Red Hot Recorder method book and by the Recorder Karate learning program (5th grade only), where students receive "belts" for each song that is correctly performed.  The students complete their year in Recorder instruction by composing simple songs.
