The Reading Renaissance Program
What is it?
The Reading Renaissance Program is used for our comprehension component of reading. It consists of having the students maintain a reading folder, read at home, and participate in a minimum of sixty minutes a day doing some type of reading at school (either Reading To, Reading With, or Reading Independently). Our media center has a large collection of books, paperbacks and audiovisual items. These are coded by reading level to make independent selection easy for students.
How does it work?
After completion of a book on their reading level students take a computerized test on that book using the Accelerated Reader (AR) management software. Scores are calculated and records are maintained for each student.
