BHS wins 11th consecutive Literary State Championship

Congratulations to the students on the Buford High School Literary team, who won the Georgia High School Association State Literary Meet this past Saturday! This is the eleventh consecutive state championship for our Literary team. Buford High School is the only school in any classification in the history of GHSA to win eleven consecutive state championships in Literary. This is also the thirteenth state Literary title in the past fifteen years for our school. Our students placed first or second in every individual event in which they were entered. The meet is scored by the placement of competitors in each event: 7 points for first place, 5 for second, 3 for third, and 1 point for fourth. This Literary team scored 62 total points on Saturday. This is the highest number of points that a Buford Literary team has ever scored in the history of our school. Please join in congratulating these students on this phenomenal accomplishment!

Please also convey your congratulations to the coaches on the Literary team: Dr. Tim Harris (Extemporaneous Speaking and Essay Events), Kim Staples (Oral Performance Events), and Joy Fowler (Music Events). They put in many months of hard work to help our students to reach their full potential in these areas. We deeply appreciate the many teachers and students who gave of their time to represent our school system by serving in various capacities on Saturday; particularly to all of the teachers who assisted at the competition or gave up their classrooms for the event. Dr. Harris did a phenomenal job as the state coordinator of Literary for GHSA, presenting a seamless competition that celebrated the excellence of the students in our state.
Our Literary competitors are the product of every teacher in our school system who has invested in their futures. Thank you for the work that you do every day to develop our young people and to prepare them for great things! GO WOLVES!
