2010 Newsweek's Best Schools

Congratulations to Buford High School for making Newsweek’s America’s Best High Schools list. Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country based on how hard school staffs work to challenge students with advanced placement college-level courses and tests. Just over 1600 schools were chosen and only six percent of all the public schools in the US, including Buford made the list for the first time in Buford High School’s history.

 

2011 AP AWARDS and SSAS AWARDS

Buford High School received awards in the following categories:

AP CHALLENGE SCHOOLS: Schools with fewer than 900 students with students testing in the four core areas of English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science (41 schools)

AP STEM SCHOOLS: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science) (147 Schools)

AP STEM ACHIEVEMENT SCHOOLS: Schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses and at least 40% of the exam scores on AP math and AP science exams earning scores of 3 or higher. (80 Schools)

 
2008 - 2009 Silver Award

The Award is given by the State of Georgia Governor's Office of Achievement.

Congratulations 2011 State Literary Team
  • Congratulations to our Literary team which represented Buford High School and won the State Championship at the GHSA AA State Literary Meet at Veterans High School in Warner Robbins this past Saturday. This is the fifth state championship in the past seven years for our Literary team and the third consecutive state title! Please note that they will be out of dress code today. So, please give them a huge pat on the back when you see them!

Anna Kerlin finished fourth in the state in Girls Essay

Pat Guiney, Noah Haines, Brandon Cheatham, and Trey Jerkins finished fourth in the state in Boys Quartet.

Jenna Falletta finished third in the state in Girls Dramatic Interpretation.

  • The state championship marks a special place in softball history. We are the first school in GHSA softball history to win 5 state championships.
 
   
   
   
2010 - 2011  

Congratulations to the Buford Baseball team!! They are the new 2011 AA State Champions!

 
 

The Boys State Track Meet was a great success for Buford High. C.J. Moore won the State Class AA 100 Meter Dash and the 4 x 100 Meter Dash team won a State Runner-Up as they finished second by only .03 seconds!

-Our 4 x 100 Meter Relay Team won the Region 6-AA Championship

The Girls State Track Meet is May 12-14 in Albany.

-Maya Dillard will compete in the Girls State Track Meet in Albany this Thursday, May 12th - Saturday, May 14th in the 800 Meters.

-Martinez Johnson won Two Gold Medals (First Place!) in the wheelchair division for both the 200 Meter and 800 Meter events.

Aly Hicks competed in the State Golf Tournament this May 2nd!

Congratulations to the 2010 Lady Wolves Softball AA State Champions!

Congratulations to our Lady Wolves Softball Team for winning the 2010 GHSA Class AA State Softball Championship on Saturday in Columbus. They won all four of their games in Columbus, and now have won four straight state championships. Only one other softball team in state history has matched that accomplishment!

Congratulations to the following BHS students!

Elizabeth Darden was named Player of the Year for Area 4A/AA. She has broken the Buford High School and State of Georgia record with 583 digs this year, averaging 12 digs per game.

Maya Dillard broke the cross country school record in th 5K race with a time of 18:47.

The Lady Wolves Softball team won their third consecutive Region 6AA championship

Congratulations to Josh Martindale! He received Honorable Mention in Josten's nationwide contest for one of his photographs that will be in the yearbook.  Josten's received over 6,000 entries for this contest.  By receiving honorable mention, this means that he was in the top ten in his category. 
 
Congratulations to Kim Staples! She was inducted into the Georgia Thespian Hall of Fame! It is an incredible accomplishment and we are very fortunate to have her here with us doing the incredible things she does!
