SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Steve Merritt Memorial Scholarship- $1,000 scholarship awarded to a high school senior who has demonstrated a community commitment, a dedication to faith, family, profession, and the tradition of excellence associated with the city of Buford and Buford City Schools. An essay and three references are required. Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline is May 9, 2008.
Rotary Club of Buford North Gwinnett Annual Scholarship- awarded annually to a graduating senior who plans to continue their education after graduation and who exhibits the rotary club motto “service above self”. A short essay is required. Applications are due to counseling office by April 25, 2008.
Buford Athletic Booster Club Scholarship- At least six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to BHS seniors who have participated in at least one athletic program for at least one year and enroll in a full time educational program in the fall of 2008. Scholarships will be awarded based on high school record, test scores, a student produced essay and on leadership qualities. Applications are due to counseling office by May 13, 2008.
Kiwanis Club of North Gwinnett Scholarship- Amount varies – Student will complete a brief application and schedule an interview with the Kiwanis Club members. Applications are due
to the counseling office by April 23, 2008.
Buford Youth Football Association Scholarship- Amount varies - Student must have participated in the Buford Youth Football Association for at least one season. The purpose is to recognize outstanding student leaders to include: academic ability, performance, extracurricular activities, awards, and work experience. Applications are available in the counseling office. Deadline is May 1, 2008.
Buford Lanier Women’s Club Scholarship- $1000 scholarship awarded to a female high school senior who has exemplified strong work ethic and moral character by achieving academic success while participating in extra-curricular activities and being involved in their community. Applications due to Mrs. Fishman by May 1, 2008.
SMILE Scholarship- $500 awarded to high school senior planning to attend college or technical college. Students must have a minimum of 3.3 GPA, sound moral character, and be involved in community and extra-curricular activities. Applications are available in the counseling office and due back to the counseling office by May 1, 2008.
ABWA Lake Lanier Education Award- American Business Women’s Association Scholarship awarded to a senior planning to pursue post-secondary education. Student needs to complete an application which includes writing an essay and submitting three references. See Mrs. Fishman for an application. Applications must be received by May 1, 2008.
Buford Youth Cheerleading Association- $1000 awarded to high school seniors who have participated in the BYCA for at least one season. The purpose is to recognize and award outstanding student leaders with exceptional academic ability, performance, extra-curricular activities, awards, and leadership ability. See Mrs. Fishman for an application. Deadline of receipt is May 2, 2008.
By this time, all seniors should have completed the FASFA. The FASFA is required to be considered for any government assistance (this includes HOPE scholarship). Government funds are allocated on a first come first serve basis. Refer to the handout you received at our meeting in January. Additional copies are available in the guidance office.
