Special Health Care Needs
If your child will be returning to school with any special health care needs, i.e. cast, crutches, special diet, newly diagnosed illness, blood sugar monitoring, nebulizer treatments, etc. please contact the school as soon as possible to discuss accommodations.
Medication Administration Guidelines
Please review the following guidelines for medication administration during school hours. The information below can also be found in your child's agenda. With your cooperation on this matter we can together keep your children's health and well-being a top priority.
All medication (prescription and non-prescription) must be taken (by an adult) directly to the office or clinic for safe storage.
All medication must be accompanied by an administration of medication request form signed by a parent/guardian. School officials will not assist in the administering of any medication without signed permission. There will be no exceptions. Verbal consent cannot be accepted.
All medication must be in the original container. Prescription medicines must be labeled with the student's name and will be given according to labeled instructions on the bottle. If medicine is needed during school hours, during a limited time-period, bring enough medicine for daily doses. No medications can be returned to a student to carry home. Unused medication will be stored in the clinic until an adult can pick it up.
Any medication found in the possession of a student will be taken to the clinic for storage until the parent/guardian can be contacted. It will not be returned to the student, and the student will face disciplinary action for violation of the school's policy on medication administration.
All medications stored at school must be picked up the last day of school each year. The school nurse will dispose of any medication left in the clinic a week after school ends.
Is your child too sick for school?
Early in the morning it is often difficult to make a decision about whether or not your child is sick enough to stay home from school. With minor symptoms you often cannot tell whether he is going to get better or worse during the course of the day.
The main reasons for keeping your child home are:
Remember to always make sure that the school knows how to reach you during the day, and that there is a back-up plan and phone number on file if we cannot reach you.
IMPORTANT!!
IF YOUR CHILD HAS A SEVERE FOOD ALLERGY, PLEASE CONTACT THE SCHOOL ASAP.
Head Lice/Nits
Students who have been sent home should receive prompt treatment for lice/nits and return to school the following day. Any absences due to head lice/nits are unexcused. When returning to school they must be brought in by an adult to the front office, they cannot ride the bus until cleared by the school nurse. If child is found lice/nit free they will be returned to their regular school day and be allowed to participate in all school activities including riding the bus.
