Intentional planning in regard to the space needed for academics and athletics is one of the system's top priorities according to Superintendent Reed. “We are attempting to anticipate needs for the future, looking at our current buildings and making plans to renovate and build over the next three years, which will carry us through for the next several years.”
The first project is a visitor's fieldhouse that will be located at the Middle School’s Tom Riden stadium. This project will address the needs of visiting football teams as well as cross country and track teams. Construction will start in the coming weeks. The new fieldhouse has an estimated completion date of Fall 2022, however, may not be complete by the first home game of the season next school year.
The next project will provide additional classroom space for students at Buford Middle School. The proposed concept converts the current print room and wrestling room into multiple classrooms. Construction will begin this summer and will be completed for the Fall 2022 school year. Buford Middle School’s current fieldhouse will be renovated along with the school’s kitchen and cafeteria. These remodels will be ready for students the following school year 2023-2024 and will provide nearly 20 classrooms.
In the Spring of 2023, construction will begin at the Buford Senior Academy with the addition of a two-story building situated on the property directly behind the fifth-grade wing. This new building will house 30 classrooms and office space in preparation for the third-grade level to relocate to Buford Senior Academy in the Fall of 2024.
At the high school, a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building has been identified as a need for the high school’s CTE pathway students. A timeline for construction has not been set. The new building will include a construction lab, foods lab, multiple computer science labs, an engineering lab, and a law and public safety pathway lab.
The new Buford High School Football Stadium will be located on Buford Highway (SR13) across the street from Buford High School. Design work has already begun, and construction is anticipated to begin in January 2023. The project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2024.
As work begins at the school buildings additional communication regarding work zones and hours along with changes to car rider lines will be communicated to parents through emails and the district website.
