Our Mission: Buford City Schools is dedicated to providing quality instructional services and support to students with disabilities., enabling them to foster their independence and become contributing and productive citizens.
 
FAPE
Buford City Schools will provide a free appropriate education (FAPE) to all students residing in the City of Buford between the ages of 3 and 21, inclusive, including children with disabilities who have been suspended or expelled from school.  Services for students with disabilities will cease on the student’s 22nd birthday.

In accordance with IDEA regulations, Buford City Schools seeks to ensure that all disabled students (ages 3-21) who need special education within its jurisdiction are identified, located, and evaluated.  This includes those students who are Home School and those students who attend Private School.

**Destruction of Special Education Records**
 
This notice contains information for special education students who have attended Buford City Schools. Federal regulations under 34 C.F.R. Part 300 (I.D.E.A.) allows school districts to destroy special education records/files when they are no longer needed for the education of the child. Special education records for students whose birth date falls between 1/1/2001 and 12/31/2001 will be destroyed unless Buford City Schools is notified by July 31, 2024. Special education students have the right to request copies of these records for their files. Copies of records will be made available within 45 days of the written request. All written requests should be sent to Buford City Schools Central Office by July 31, 2024.
