Angelica McKinley was hired as a School Resource Officer by the Buford City School Board in June of 2019. Officer McKinley is currently assigned to Buford Middle School, where she is also a Volleyball coach.
 
McKinley’s law enforcement career began with the Gwinnett County Police Department in March of 2012.  During her tenure with the Gwinnett County Police Department, McKinley worked as a Uniform Officer at South Precinct and as a Detective in the Special Victim’s Unit (SVU).  While assigned to SVU, McKinley conducted and assisted in over 100 Forensic Interviews with children between the ages of 3- 16. McKinley has over 150 hours of training geared towards investigating cases involving victims of sexual assaults and physical abuse.  McKinley was also attached to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for the State of Georgia.
 
In March of 2018, McKinley was promoted to the rank of Corporal.  As a Corporal, McKinley trained new detectives assigned to SVU and acted as the supervisor when needed.  McKinley also served as an Instructor with the Gwinnett County Police Department Youth Police Academy and she also taught Special Victim Investigations to police recruits.
 
Officer McKinley holds a Masters of Public Administration from Troy University and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from Alabama State University.  The Georgia Peace Officers Standard and Training Council (POST) has awarded Officer McKinley several certifications, including, POST Instructor and Child First.  McKinley has logged over 1,800 hours of specialized training during her career.
 
Officer McKinley is certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) at the Advanced level.
