Joel Carrasco was hired as a School Resource Officer (SRO) by the Buford City School Board in August of 2022. SRO Carrasco is currently assigned to Buford Senior Academy.

Prior to being a Law Enforcement Officer, SRO Carrasco was a soldier in the U.S. Army proudly serving nearly 8 years (1999-2007) of active-duty.

Officer Carrasco’s law enforcement career began with the Gwinnett County Police Department in September of 2007. During his tenure, Officer Carrasco worked as a Patrol Officer at Central Precinct and as a Detective in the Special Investigation Section. While assigned to SIS, Officer Carrasco worked in the Narcotics and VICE unit arresting hundreds of subjects and seizing large amounts of money, drugs, vehicles, and assets. Officer Carrasco has assisted the D.E.A and FBI M.A.T.C.H. task force in cases involving drugs, prostitution, and human trafficking.

In July of 2019, Officer Carrasco was hired by Gwinnett County Public Schools where he worked as an SRO for three years at Peachtree Ridge High School.

Officer Carrasco holds an Associate’s Degree and is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University. The Georgia Peace Officers Standard and Training Council (POST) has awarded Officer Carrasco several certifications, including, Advanced Certificate, and Field Training Officer. Carrasco has logged over 2,100 hours of specialized training during his career.

Officer Carrasco is certified by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) at the Basic level.
